Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, Iowa
Senator Mike Gronstal was elected Chair of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) in March 2007 after being elected DLCC's Vice-Chair in December, 2006. Previous to his tenure as Chair and Vice Chair of DLCC, Senator Gronstal was instrumental as the DLCC’s Finance Chair helping Democrats make gains nationwide in the 2006 legislative elections.
Mike Gronstal has served in the Iowa Senate since 1985 and was a member of the Iowa House from 1983-1985. He represents Council Bluffs and Carter Lake on the western border of Iowa. Senator Gronstal is a third generation Council Bluffs resident, where he lives with his wife, Connie. They have two grown daughters, Kate and Sara.
Mike is a graduate of Council Bluffs’ St. Albert High School and Antioch College in Ohio. He also attended Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.
Senator Gronstal is the Senate Majority Leader and serves as chair of the Rules & Administration Committee. He believes that governing is a bi-partisan effort to ensure that Iowa is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. During his years of service, Senator Gronstal has focused on better jobs, education, and health care for all Iowans. His legislative agenda in the Senate includes addressing Iowa’s shortage of skilled workers through funding greater opportunities for Iowa workers in Iowa’s community colleges, school districts, and adult education programs.
