DLCC Statement on Iowa State Senator Sorenson’s Resignation

The following is a statement from Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee’s executive director Michael Sargeant on Iowa state Senator Kent Sorenson’s (R-Indianola) resignation from the Iowa legislature.

“Former Senator Sorenson served on the Iowa Senate Judiciary Committee, but he still thought that his position allowed him to break the laws instead of following them. The independent counsel to the state Senate’s Ethics Committee concluded that Sen. Sorenson ‘was involved in a criminal conspiracy,’ violated Senate rules ‘to accept compensation’ from Michele Bachmann’s Presidential Campaign, made false statements to investigators and committed ‘felonious misconduct.’

“The bipartisan Iowa Senate Ethics Committee worked diligently and professionally to investigate Senator Sorenson's actions, and thanks to these efforts, justice was served."
