Yesterday afternoon, during debate on whether New Hampshire should have any minimum wage law at all (it did until the Tea Party-dominated legislature repealed it in 2011), state Senator and former Congressman Jeb Bradley made an astounding claim: "When the federal minimum wage law went up in 2009 to $7.25 an hour, in the next two months after that, 230,000 Americans, teenagers mostly, lost jobs."
Setting aside the absurd idea that "teenagers" were the only demographic significantly impacted by layoffs in those months, can Sen. Bradley not think of any other factors that may have contributed to job losses in August and September, 2009? Is there really nothing at all that might plausibly explain it - say, a massive financial crisis that had already cost America about 7 million jobs since the fateful collapse of Lehman Brothers? If it weren't for all those greedy custodians at Lehman headquarters, Bradley seems to be implying, America would not have lost all those jobs in August and September.
