  • North Dakota Republicans pass most restrictive abortion law in the nation

    Arkansas may soon lose its title of the state with the strictest abortion law. According to the Denver Post, "North Dakota on Friday moved one step closer to adopting what would be the most restrictive abortion laws in the country, with lawmakers sending the Republican governor measures that could set the state up for a costly legal battle over the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized the procedure."
  • North Dakota Republicans continue to allow people to be fired from their jobs because they are gay or lesbian

    While Democrats in Illinois yesterday advanced legislation ensuring full marriage rights for the state's gay and lesbian couples, Republicans in North Dakota turned back an attempt to make sure that the state's LGBT citizens could not be fired from their jobs or evicted from their homes because of their sexual orientation.
  • Voter suppression comes to North Dakota

    North Dakota has long been unique among states as the only one in America with no official voter registration.  It works, according to fact sheets provided by the Secretary of State, because North Dakota’s largely rural character means that in most election precincts, the poll workers literally know every single voter who walks through the door.  The only requirement for voting in the Peace Garden State is to have lived in one's precinct for at least 30 days prior to the election.
