  • GOP Failing to Recruit Women Candidates for 2014

    Republicans are once again failing to deliver a diverse set of candidates for the upcoming 2014 midterm elections, while Democrats are busy growing an already diverse slate. In particular, a DLCC analysis of early-filing states shows that the GOP is lagging behind in recruiting female candidates, with some states actually running fewer Republican women than in 2012.  In a release accompanying the analysis, DLCC Executive Director Michael Sargeant noted:

    Just hours ahead of the State of the Union address, it has become clear that President Obama will issue an executive order raising the minimum wage for federal contractors, underscoring the urgency of nationwide action on the issue. In 30 states, Democratic legislators have already begun work to increase minimum wages.     2013 may be remembered as the year that Democratic efforts to protect and expand voting rights re-asserted themselves.  In just the past few weeks, Democratic legislation has advanced in at least four states - California, Oregon, Colorado, and Maryland - that would remove significant barriers to voting while protecting the integrity of our elections.

    Republicans in all four states, naturally, oppose the efforts.
