Even though Ohio's Republican Governor wants to expand Medicaid, and a plurality of Ohio residents support expanding the Medicaid program to working people in the state, Ohio's Republican controlled budget committee killed the attempt to provide additional health care insurance to roughly 366,000 working Ohioans.
Rep. Kris Crawford, a Republican legislator and emergency room doctor from South Carolina, committed the ultimate political gaffe when he told the truth about why Republican legislators are opposing Medicaid expansion:
“The politics are going to overwhelm the policy. It is good politics to oppose the black guy in the White House right now, especially for the Republican Party,” Crawford said.
Hundreds of thousands of working Hoosiers will find it more difficult to purchase health insurance because of Republicans in the state legislature. According to Indiana Public Media, the budget released by Indiana Republicans "does not include funding for the Medicaid expansion proposed under the Affordable Care Act."
