Ghazala Hashmi

Senator Ghazala Hashmi is a Virginia state senator and former educator running as the official Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor this November. After a thirty-year career in education, Ghazala was elected to the Virginia Senate in 2019 in a major upset victory over a Republican incumbent, giving Democrats control of the chamber for the first time in years. Since then, she has distinguished herself as a strong champion for working families on issues like public education funding, reproductive freedom, and access to affordable health care. If she is elected to be Virginia’s next lieutenant governor she can break a tied vote in the Virginia Senate in favor of Democrats, a power she is committed to using to help ensure a bright future for every resident of the commonwealth.
