After Double-Digit Win In Iowa, DLCC Adds Five Races to Spotlight Races Page
Upcoming Mississippi Special Election and New Jersey Assembly Candidates Named to DLCC’s Website Highlighting Priority Statehouse Races
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following Representative-elect Phil Miller’s crushing victory in Iowa last night, Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post announced the addition of five upcoming legislative races to DLCC’s recently launched Spotlight Races webpage. The new class of candidates includes a critical September special election for a Mississippi House seat that could break Republicans’ supermajority in the chamber, and four candidates running for the New Jersey Assembly this November.
“DLCC is thrilled by the recent successes of our Spotlight Race candidates and we look forward to adding more races as the cycle progresses and Democrats build momentum on the legislative level,” said Post. “The September special election for Mississippi House District 102 is an opportunity for Democrats to bust Republicans’ harmful supermajority in the chamber and DLCC will stand with Democrat Kathryn Rehner as she fights to flip the district to Democratic hands.
“While Democrats’ hold on the New Jersey Legislature has never been stronger, DLCC will continue to actively support our candidates and is excited to highlight Roy Freiman (AD-16), Lacey Rzeszowski (AD-21), Jannie Chung (AD-39), and Annie Hausmann (AD-39) as new Spotlight Races.”
Last month, New Hampshire Democrat Kevin Cavanaugh was the first DLCC Spotlight Race candidate to claim victory in his special election for the New Hampshire Senate, and last night Dr. Phil Miller became the second with his monumental Iowa win. In both cases, th successful deployment of DLCC programs ensured both candidates had the strategic support, campaign infrastructure, and resources to win. DLCC looks forward to bringing its winning momentum to Mississippi and New Jersey after flipping four legislative seats and claiming numerous victories in New Hampshire, Oklahoma, New York, Pennsylvania, and beyond.
