Alabama House Special Election on March 26th represents the first election in Alabama since this shocking ruling
WASHINGTON — After the Supreme Court of Alabama ruled that fertilized eggs have the same rights as children and two clinics have now paused IVF treatment, the landscape of reproductive freedoms in Alabama has been thrown into chaos. Republicans in the state legislature have already banned abortions with no exceptions for rape or incest and passed a law threatening prison time for physicians, or anyone, who provides or attempts to provide an abortion. Electing champions of reproductive care in Alabama and across the country has never been more important, which is why all eyes should now be on the upcoming state House special election on March 26th.
DLCC Spotlight candidate Marilyn Lands is running in a razor-tight race in HD-10, a tossup and true battleground district in a red state. This week, she launched an ad sharing her abortion story, and her race will be the first test of the mood of Alabamian voters following the court’s ruling that’s fundamentally undermined reproductive freedoms. State legislatures across the country are on the frontlines of determining access to the full spectrum of reproductive care, and electing Democrats is the only way to protect against MAGA’s anti-women and anti-health care agenda.
