WASHINGTON — Arizona GOP lawmakers are advancing a bill that would allow people to legally shoot and kill undocumented migrants, or anybody, who crosses their land. Arizona currently allows the use of deadly force against home intruders, but this bill would expand the right to kill anyone crossing through their property – including unarmed migrants.
After leading efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election and pushing extreme abortion bans, Arizona Republicans have become a hotbed for extremism undermining the most fundamental of freedoms – now including the right to live.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Communications Director Abhi Rahman issued the following statement:
“The extremism of the Arizona GOP is so outrageous that they now are a step closer to legalizing murder. Make no mistake, this bill encourages Arizonians to shoot first and ask questions later. Across the country, Republican legislators continue to dehumanize immigrants and this bill takes the cake of how bad and vile their rhetoric and policy has gotten. Arizona is one of our best opportunities this year to flip a legislature from red to blue and the DLCC is leaving nothing to chance. The DLCC will continue to highlight and fight back against this MAGA extremism until we build a better, safer, and more inclusive Arizona for all.”
