WASHINGTON — The Oregon House was officially called for Democrats, keeping control of Oregon’s legislature in Democratic hands for another two years. Republicans named Oregon as a flip target this cycle, pumping nearly $10 million into the state. The DLCC and state partners mobilized quickly to defend these critical majorities. Despite Republicans’ best efforts, voters soundly rejected them at the polls. As projected, Democrats will officially not lose any legislative chambers this midterm election year for the first time since at least 1934.

A Democratic legislature will bolster incoming Democratic Governor and former DLCC board chair Tina Kotek’s agenda and will continue to champion Democratic progress across Oregon. This ensures that Oregon remains a safe haven for reproductive rights, leads the way for sustainable energy, and fully funds public education throughout the state.

“Voters delivered the final blow to Republican’s embarrassing string of losses. The GOP tried to expand their map this cycle — and instead they lost ground across the country,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. “Oregon Democrats just overcame steep historical odds and massive Republican spending to hold the state legislature and triumph over Oregon’s MAGA GOP. As Republicans began to ramp up their spending in Oregon over the summer, the DLCC and our state partners remained nimble and worked to defend these majorities from a Republican takeover.”

When Oregon became at risk because of a deluge of GOP spending, the DLCC mobilized and invested over $1.5 million in the state, helping state partners lay the groundwork for strong campaigns. Oregon Republicans worked to block climate legislation, underfund public education, and restrict reproductive freedom instead of focusing on the issues that matter to Oregon communities.

The DLCC is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning America’s state legislatures. This cycle, the committee raised $50 million at its fastest pace ever to elect state Democrats across the country. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and pass the policies that have the biggest impact on Americans’ day-to-day lives.
