WASHINGTON — Vermont Democrats have won a supermajority in the state legislature, meaning they will now hold the power to override GOP Governor Scott’s veto. This victory bolsters Democrats’ ability to champion affordable health care and lower energy costs for individuals and their local communities.

“Vermont Democrats just claimed a crucial supermajority to enact the party’s agenda in the Green Mountain State,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. “With this new supermajority, Democrats are ready to fully fund public education, and cut energy costs in every Vermont community. This victory is a clear sign that Vermont voters approve of the Democratic legislature’s work and are ready to give them more control over the agenda.”

The DLCC is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning America’s state legislatures. This cycle, the committee raised $50 million to elect state Democrats across the country. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and pass the policies that have the biggest impact on Americans’ day-to-day lives.
