WASHINGTON — Democrat Gina Curry won a special election in Pennsylvania HD-164 today, holding this Democratic seat. Representative-elect Curry has spent more than 20 years serving children and families in her district and focused her campaign on education, affordable housing, and criminal justice reform.
“As the Pennsylvania Republican Party becomes increasingly radical and focused on overturning the 2020 election, I’m thankful to know that Gina Curry will never lose focus on delivering for the working families, students, educators, and small business owners,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. “Representative-elect Curry has worked for decades in the intersection of education, real estate, and community development and will bring her wealth of knowledge to the Pennsylvania General Assembly.”
The Pennsylvania GOP has used their majority to try to enact extreme legislation and are in the midst of a sham election review backed by insurrectionist Sen. Doug Mastriano and Donald Trump. Republican leaders in Pennsylvania have also pushed legislation that would undermine voting rights in this key battleground state and have been working tirelessly to try to pass draconian anti-abortion laws. This win helps set the stage for Democrats to build power in the legislature in 2022 and chip away at the Republican majority.
