DLCC launches new microsite to mark the launch of the “Summer of States,” which includes a $10 million investment, the unveiling of key target races, and the DLCC’s winning strategy to prevent a MAGA takeover of state legislatures.

WASHINGTON — Today, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is launching its “Summer of the States” campaign with a commitment of $10 million in new investments to boost key state legislative candidates and campaigns across the country. As the DLCC continues its year-round work in all 50 states, this summer investment and call to action for Democrats to invest in state legislative races will focus on DLCC’s target states where strong legislative campaigns will be key for delivering the Democratic Party’s message to voters and for protecting our democracy and fundamental rights from a total Republican takeover by Trump and his MAGA allies.
This is the first time the DLCC has announced an investment like this as an early call to action to focus resources and attention on the critical work needed at the state level. Donald Trump’s MAGA agenda is being enacted in the states, and GOP donors are pouring millions of dollars into state and local-level races to boost the chances of a Trump victory and put in place an army of MAGA allies in state legislatures. If they succeed in building this base of power, it will be catastrophic for our democracy and our fundamental rights.
That’s why the DLCC is leaving nothing to chance and announcing new investments to fortify Democratic power in the states, defend against MAGA policies, and drive success through the top of the ticket. Democrats in state legislatures have continued an impressive trend of overperformance since the start of the Biden presidency, and these investments will ensure that as Donald Trump and his allies work toward a total takeover in November, we are raising the alarm to make sure Democrats do not overlook the importance of resourcing this ballot level and for moving our shared agenda forward.

“The Summer of the States will help drive the DLCC’s long-term strategy to build power at this ballot level. If Democrats want to win at any level of the ballot, the party must focus on state legislatures and invest in the DLCC to protect fundamental freedoms, defend the path to the presidency, and enshrine Democratic power. The Summer of the States is the foundation for what will be possible this fall in this pivotal election year.”
