Republicans failed after spending millions to flip this critical state legislative chamber

WASHINGTON — In one of the most competitive state legislative chambers in the country, the DLCC and Pennsylvania House Democrats have emerged victorious and successfully secured enough seats to protect their crucial majority and keep this chamber under Democratic control.

In 2022, Democrats gained control of the chamber by a single seat, and have fiercely defended the majority ever since, winning all eight majority-deciding special elections and keeping MAGA extremism at bay. For the past decade, the DLCC has worked hand in hand with our partners and allies in Pennsylvania to win – and now defend – this consequential majority.

Every seat counts at the state legislative level, and protecting Democrats’ control of the Pennsylvania House provides a path for continued progress in the Keystone State.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“This is a historic win for the DLCC and our allies in Pennsylvania. Protecting the Democratic majority in the Pennsylvania House was one of the most challenging yet important priorities of the cycle, and Pennsylvania Democrats and the DLCC worked closely together to clinch this decisive victory. Republicans made flipping this chamber a top priority in their quest to regain control of the state legislature, but their campaign proved no match to Democrats’ smart investments and strategy.

“Our newly elected and reelected Democratic lawmakers in the Pennsylvania House are poised to move the Commonwealth forward and provide a critical check on Republican extremism in the state Senate. Pennsylvania will remain a top priority for the DLCC as we work to build a future Democratic trifecta.”

The DLCC is the official arm of the Democratic Party with the sole mission of building Democratic power in the states and setting the national agenda at the state level. Over the last decade, we have fought cycle-over-cycle to gain a dozen new legislative chamber majorities and we are leading the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
