WASHINGTON — After launching its Threats to Democracy website last month, the DLCC is adding more than 30 additional Republican state legislators and candidates who pose an existential threat to our democracy, bringing its running total of MAGA Republicans on the ballot this fall to over 700. The latest round of updates includes three more insurrectionist candidates, meaning a total of 21 candidates who were in DC on January 6th will be on the ballot this November. Among the full list of nearly 1,100 MAGA Republicans the DLCC has identified, hundreds are running in key states that could determine the path to the presidency in 2024.

“The evidence is clear — MAGA candidates and election deniers are working to seize power in state legislatures all across the country,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. “These candidates no longer represent the fringe of the Republican Party, but instead represent the GOP’s future. In key swing states like Arizona and Michigan, MAGA militants are moving the insurrection from our nation’s capital to state capitals. While the GOP threat grows, state Democrats and the DLCC are working to stop the MAGA movement in its tracks and ensure that democracy is protected by electing Democrats to state legislatures all across the map this fall.”

This latest update to the site includes:

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee was the first and only entity committed to identifying, tracking, and condemning the hundreds of Republican state lawmakers who aided and abetted Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Now, its current Threats to Democracy website is the most comprehensive account of state legislators and state legislative candidates who continue to normalize anti-democratic extremism and are complicit in the ongoing attack on our democracy. With more than 7,300 state legislative seats nationwide, the research for this project is ongoing, and the list continues to grow. The DLCC research team is actively soliciting tips for additional information at [email protected].
