DLCC invested over $2M in Virginia this election to support record candidate recruitment & fundraising alongside the strongest House caucus operation to date
WASHINGTON — Virginia House Democrats have shattered expectations by flipping at least 11 seats – reaching at least a 62-seat majority, which marks the largest Democratic House majority in Virginia since the election of 1989. This is the first time in 50 years that Democrats have expanded their majority in this battleground chamber, and the first time in nearly 40 years that a Virginia Democratic governor is entering office with a trifecta.
The DLCC invested over $2M in Virginia to support the strongest caucus program in history — from running candidates across all 100 districts to setting records for fundraising. Tonight, voters also elected a Democratic governor and a Democratic lieutenant governor, delivering a mandate for a progressive agenda and for leaders committed to economic opportunities as Trump raises prices and eliminates jobs.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“Tonight was an earthquake election in Virginia. Democrats ran winning campaigns across every corner of the state, clinching nearly every target race and netting the biggest House majority in nearly 40 years. Democrats’ monumental victories tonight are no accident – the DLCC has worked hand-in-hand with Virginia Democrats for multiple cycles to build a powerhouse caucus program that deeply resonated with voters looking for leadership. Voters soundly rejected the MAGA agenda that has raised prices and hurt working families, and the new Democratic trifecta in Virginia will serve as a strong bulwark against the chaos and dysfunction in DC. Republicans have been put on notice for 2026.”
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
