Countdown Begins: Less than 100 Days Until Election Day

WASHINGTON — This past Sunday marked 100 days until the November midterm elections. In an effort to reach as many voters as possible, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) Executive Director Jessica Post announced that the organization plans to knock on more than 1 million doors before the end of the summer.

 

“The DLCC is ready to beat the heat with our Million Door Summer initiative!” said Post. “We have less than 100 days left to knock on doors, make phone calls, register voters, and do everything we can to take back our states. With help from our Democratic caucuses, legislative leaders, progressive allies, and incredible volunteers all across the country, we plan to knock on 1 million doors by the end of the summer. The DLCC has been making strategic early investments in targeted states to make sure campaigns have the training and staff they need to succeed. Our field team has already trained more than 500 candidates and staff so far, with more on the way.

 

“Our track record of flipping 44 seats from red to blue since Trump was elected shows that our strategy is working, and we’re excited to continue leading the blue wave of resistance as we rebuild the Democratic Party from the ground up. Democrats must stand united and fight back against the systemic attacks from Trump and Republicans against voting rights, health care, the right to organize, and our democracy.”

 

Of the more than 6,000 state legislative races on the ballot this year, there are nearly 800 seats up for election that will redraw the legislative lines during redistricting in 2021.

 

In 37 states, it’s state legislators who redraw the district lines for state and federal representation, making it more important now than ever that we elect state Democrats who support creating fair maps and who will work to make sure every voter’s voice is heard.

 

With the highest number of Democratic candidates running since 1982, Democrats nationwide have an expanded opportunity to reach more voters than ever before. Already this cycle, the DLCC has helped state Democrats set aggressive field goals and shatter previous volunteer records, and it’s led to state Democrats flipping 44 seats, including key special elections wins in what were once red districts in states like Missouri, Kentucky, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Florida and beyond.

 

With Democrats just 17 seats away from flipping eight legislative chambers, the DLCC is working to help safeguard American values by electing more Democrats and expanding our blue wall by winning more legislative majorities.
