WASHINGTON — Nevada Democrats just gained a supermajority in the Assembly, maintaining a woman-majority chamber in an election that was defined by protecting abortion rights. The RSLC named the Nevada Assembly as one of its top flip targets this cycle and Republicans inundated the state with over $9.2 million in spending. Their plan failed spectacularly and their party has been relegated to a superminority even as their gubernatorial candidate won statewide. The DLCC identified Nevada as a top defense target early last year and worked tirelessly with our state partners to deliver this crucial victory.
Nevada Democrats already secured a majority in both chambers, and this supermajority will play a crucial role in keeping incoming Republican Governor Joe Lombardo’s dangerous agenda in check.
“Nevada Democrats overcame steep odds by holding both chambers — creating a supermajority in the Nevada Assembly is a stunning feat,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. “The RSLC and the MAGA movement funneled millions into Nevada, but Democrats never let Nevadans forget the GOP’s extreme stance on abortion. The GOP ends this election with less power in the legislature. I’ll give it to the RSLC — that’s a remarkable accomplishment for the party out of power in the midterm. We are so proud to see Nevada Democrats create a supermajority and are excited for the progress they will enact in the Battle Born State.”
Nevada was a crucial target in the DLCC’s Path to The Majority strategy to protect Democratic power and make a play for vulnerable GOP majorities. The DLCC invested nearly $2 million in Nevada this cycle, helping state partners lay the groundwork for strong campaigns across the state. The DLCC’s IE arm spent heavily to protect the Nevada majority in the Assembly, including mail and digital ads. Nevada Republicans ran on a platform of election lies and extremism instead of focusing on the issues that matter to the Battle Born State.
The DLCC is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning America’s state legislatures. This cycle, the committee raised $50 million at its fastest pace ever to elect state Democrats across the country. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and pass the policies that have the biggest impact on Americans’ day-to-day lives.
