Dems Can Flip Four Seats and Give Governor Whitmer a House Majority

WASHINGTON — Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer just spoke at the Democratic National Convention, addressing her work to protect Michigan communities during the pandemic and to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Republicans in the state legislature fought her every step of the way — even going so far as to call for her impeachment. This year, we have the chance to give Governor Whitmer a House majority she can work with to deliver for the state of Michigan.

The Michigan House is one of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee’s top targets to flip from red to blue this year. Democrats only need to pick up four House seats to take back the majority.

“As a former member of the Michigan House and Senate herself, Governor Whitmer understands the critical role state legislators play,” said Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post. “She’s been a fierce defender of her state — but the GOP majority in the legislature has fought back every step of the way. Her handling of the coronavirus received high marks from Michiganders because it put science and safety first. This year, it’s time to give the governor a lever of support in the form of a blue state House. Republicans are going to have a difficult time holding onto their fragile majorities with such incompetent and callous members. We’re confident Michigan voters will want to give Governor Whitmer a legislature she can work with to get things done.”

Michigan is a top target state in the DLCC’s $50 million “Flip Everything” campaign to win legislative majorities across the country. Since Trump’s election, the DLCC and state Democrats have flipped more than 450 seats and 10 legislative chambers from red to blue.
