WASHINGTON — Today, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee and its affiliated organizations announced raising more than $11 million for the 2023-24 election cycle, an increase from this point last cycle and an important benchmark as the committee implements its Path to the Majority strategy. There are no off-years in state legislatures and the DLCC is up against unrelenting attacks from state Republicans on our fundamental freedoms, from banning abortion to undermining voting rights.
“A strong and well-resourced DLCC is critical to the success of the Democratic Party this cycle,” said interim DLCC President Heather Williams. “As Republicans continue to target the states in an attempt to roll back progress in this country, we are raising the funds and making the investments needed to compete in 2023 and to set the stage for 2024. Alongside those working to re-elect the president, governors, and other leaders, we know our shared agenda for the future cannot move forward without more Democratic majorities in state legislatures.”
Earlier this year, the DLCC laid out an ambitious target map and fundraising goals for the cycle to best capitalize on the opportunities for Democrats to secure state power this cycle. By defending existing Democratic majorities, going after vulnerable Republican majorities, and protecting Democratic governors’ vetoes, the DLCC is focused on making sure our level of the ballot is fully funded and has the resources it needs for Democrats to compete and win.
The DLCC is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning America’s state legislatures. Last year, the DLCC defied the odds by not losing any state legislative majorities, flipping four key chambers, and creating four new Democratic trifectas – the best midterm year for the party in power since at least 1934. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and pass the policies that have the biggest impact on Americans’ day-to-day lives.
