Protecting and expanding the one-seat Democratic majority in the Virginia House of Delegates is a top priority for the DLCC in 2025
WASHINGTON—Today, the DLCC announced an investment of nearly $1.5 million to support the Virginia House Democratic Caucus and the Democratic nominee for Virginia Lieutenant Governor, Sen. Ghazala Hashmi. This is part of the DLCC’s ongoing seven-figure investment in Virginia to protect and expand Virginia Democrats’ House majority. The DLCC is also announcing four additional Spotlight candidates as Democrats’ momentum expands our opportunities to pick up seats in this battleground chamber.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“All eyes should be on Virginia as November nears and Democrats fight to defend and expand our majority in the House of Delegates. The DLCC’s new seven-figure investment and expansion of Spotlight candidates comes as Virginia Democrats have undeniable momentum – from outraising their opponents to a record-breaking ground game. As Republicans break promises and raise costs, state Democrats are connecting with voters and standing against the chaos coming out of DC. These elections couldn’t be more important, which is why the DLCC is all hands on deck to fuel these winning campaigns through Election Day.”
The DLCC added the following candidates to its slate of Spotlight candidates in Virginia:
- John McAuliff (HD-30)
- Stacey Carroll (HD-64)
- Nicole Cole (HD-66)
- Virgil Thornton (HD-86)
The DLCC has worked hand-in-hand with Virginia Democrats to build a strong caucus program, and we are seeing the results in the momentum this year to protect and expand the one-seat House majority:
- This cycle, Democrats are running candidates in all 100 districts, while Virginia House Republicans are facing several retirements – a huge tell in how Republicans are looking at their odds this November.
- By mid-May this year, the Virginia House caucus had raised twice the amount it had by the same point in 2023. In Q1, Virginia Democratic candidates had raised seven times what Republicans had raised and continue to hold a strong advantage.
- Virginia Democrats set a new record for early primary voting turnout in the spring.
- The Virginia House Democratic Caucus has broken fundraising records and launched its earliest-ever $1M campaign plan across all battleground districts
- Virginia House Democrats have also reserved a record-breaking $11.5 million in television advertising.
- Democrats have consistently outraised and outspent Republicans including:
- By June 30th, DLCC Spotlight Candidate Lily Franklin had more than doubled her opponent’s cash on hand.
- Meanwhile, Republicans are scared to face voters on the doors to talk about their disastrous and unpopular policies to cut Medicaid, destroy Virginia jobs, and raise prices.
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
