The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is announcing five Spotlight candidates in Mississippi who are running in key races for the legislature this fall. These outstanding candidates stand ready to represent all Mississippians and tackle the critical issues that affect their communities.
The DLCC’s Spotlight program highlights exciting and groundbreaking candidates, flip opportunities, and races that are critical to winning and defending Democratic power. These candidates in the Magnolia State add to a growing list of 2023 Spotlight candidates including 17 candidates in Virginia’s general elections, 9 candidates in New Jersey’s general elections, and Spotlight candidates in critical special elections in states like New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.
“Democrats in Republican-controlled states like Mississippi are on the front lines of standing up to the GOP’s radical agenda,” said interim DLCC President Heather Williams. “These Democratic candidates are running to fight back against Republican extremism and ensure that all Mississippians are represented in their state legislature.”
The DLCC’s 2023 Mississippi Spotlight candidates are:
- Pam McKelvy Hamner (SD-2)
- Andre DeBerry (SD-10)
- Donna Niewiaroski (HD-12)
- David Olds (HD-24)
- Annita Bonner (HD-86)
The DLCC is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning America’s state legislatures. Last year, the DLCC defied the odds by not losing any state legislative majorities, flipping four key chambers, and creating four new Democratic trifectas – the best midterm year for the party in power since at least 1934. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and pass the policies that have the biggest impact on Americans’ day-to-day lives.
