The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee is announcing nine Spotlight candidates in New Jersey who are running to protect progress and defend the state’s Democratic majorities from an increasingly extreme and out-of-step Republican Party.
The DLCC’s Spotlight program highlights exciting and groundbreaking candidates, flip opportunities, and races that are critical to winning and defending legislative majorities. These candidates in New Jersey add to a growing list of 2023 candidates including 17 Spotlight candidates in Virginia’s general elections as well as Spotlight candidates in critical special elections in states like New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.
“There are no-off years for state legislatures and the DLCC is working with candidates across the country in 2023 to deliver new majorities and build Democratic power,” said interim DLCC President Heather Williams. “As Republicans prepare to spend big to erode progress in states like New Jersey, we stand ready to fight back. These Spotlight candidates represent critical opportunities to defend our majorities and ensure Democrats can continue to deliver for all New Jerseyans.”
The DLCC’s 2023 New Jersey Spotlight candidates are:
- Margie Donlon (LD-11, Assembly)

The DLCC is the official Democratic Party committee dedicated to winning America’s state legislatures. Last year, the DLCC defied the odds by not losing any state legislative majorities, flipping four key chambers, and creating four new Democratic trifectas – the best midterm year for the party in power since at least 1934. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and pass the policies that have the biggest impact on Americans’ day-to-day lives.
