WASHINGTON — The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee and its affiliated organizations just broke their fundraising record in the first quarter, raising over $6.5 million, surpassing their previous record set in Q1 of 2020. In March alone, the entities raised $3.45 million compared to just $1.8 million in 2020. This fundraising haul is backed by online donors and grassroots momentum at this ballot level with over 12 thousand first-time donors and an average contribution of $24.79.

“Ahead of a midterm election, it’s critical that we have the resources necessary to protect Democratic majorities and mount a strong challenge in GOP-controlled chambers,” said DLCC President Jessica Post. “The fight for the future of our country is happening right now in the states as Republicans continue to pass anti-abortion, anti-voting and book-banning laws. With the federal government not coming to save us, state Democrats are the last line of defense. It is more important than ever that we have the resources to defend Democratic seats, challenge the extremism of the GOP, and build long-term infrastructure for cycles to come.”

The DLCC is strategically investing in every possible opportunity to hold Republicans accountable for their extremism. Republicans are making life worse for millions of Americans by passing unpopular and dangerous laws at the state level. These fundraising numbers show that momentum is growing on our side as we prepare to challenge GOP-held majorities in the midterms.
