WASHINGTON —Today, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee announced Pennsylvania HD-140 candidate Jim Prokopiak as the newest addition to our slate of Spotlight candidates. The Pennsylvania House is currently tied 101-101, and Jim’s February 13 race is critical for preserving Democrats’ majority in the chamber.
Fundamental freedoms are at stake in Pennsylvania, and if Republicans gain control of the majority and the speaker’s gavel, they will immediately legislate Pennsylvania backward.
This latest vacancy shows how important a single legislative seat can be for determining a majority and why Democrats must pay attention and invest in state legislatures all year, not just in November. After defending this majority in five special elections in 2023, this race is a top priority for the DLCC as we begin the 2024 legislative election cycle.
