WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post announced the inclusion of DLCC Board members and multiple Democratic state lawmakers in the Democratic Convention speaking program in Philadelphia on Monday, July 25. DLCC Chair and Iowa Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal selected three key state Democratic leaders and Board members to highlight the diversity of our membership and leadership: Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek, California Senate President pro Tem Kevin de León, and Georgia House Democratic Leader Stacey Abrams.
“The inclusion of these legislative leaders in the Democratic Convention’s main program highlights the crucial nature of state legislative politics and down-ballot elections,” said Post. “Hillary Clinton understands that the work to improve the lives of everyday Americans doesn’t just happen in Washington, DC. In state capitols across the country, Democratic lawmakers fight every day to advance progressive policies that help hardworking families. Speaker Kotek, President pro Tem de León, and Leader Abrams are leading the way in their states to advance progressive values.
“This fall, DLCC’s work to win legislative majorities and build Democratic power in states will help these and thousands of other Democratic lawmakers continue our fight to translate statehouse progress into national results,” Post continued. “Donald Trump is a perfect standard bearer for Republican lawmakers’ false nostalgia and schemes to move our nation backwards. Americans deserve better, and Democrats elected all the way up and down the ballot will deliver in November.”
Other Democratic state legislators speaking at the Democratic Convention include:
- Tennessee state Rep. Raumesh Akbari
- Colorado House Majority Leader Rep. Crisanta Duran
- Minnesota state Rep. Peggy Flanagan
- Nevada state Sen. Ruben Kihuen
- Nevada state Sen. Pat Spearman
