WASHINGTON — Ahead of Doug Mastriano’s expected announcement to run for Pennsylvania governor tomorrow, the DLCC continues to condemn his participation in the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol and his utter disregard for democracy. Mastriano attended the insurrection, organized busloads of people to attend the rally in Washington and subsequent images appeared to show him crossing breached police barricades. A U.S. Senate Judiciary investigation separately identified him as having “a lead role” in the attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. To date, Pennsylvania Senate Republicans have not held him accountable, but the DLCC would welcome their condemnation of Mastriano’s run for higher office.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post issued the following statement:
“If Doug Mastriano announces his gubernatorial run just two days after the anniversary of his participation in an attack on our country, it will only underscore his incredible arrogance and complete disregard for the U.S. Constitution and our country. He isn’t a public servant by any measure; he’s only a servant to Donald Trump and his QAnon cronies who want to overturn the will of the American people. Pennsylvania voters are looking for a leader who will fight inequality and stand up for working-class people and I’m confident they’ll find Mastriano’s anti-democratic views as disqualifying as I do.”
The DLCC was the first and only entity committed to identifying, tracking, and condemning the elected officials who participated in and supported the insurrection. Earlier this week, the committee relaunched its tracker, the GOP of Hall of Shame: Sedition Edition, which included Doug Mastriano’s participation. We encourage anyone who knows of candidates and officials who should be included to email us at [email protected].
