DLCC Congratulates Virginia Dems On Impressive General Election Slate
Virginia Democrats Follow Record-Breaking Recruitment Success With Record-Breaking Slate Of Candidates

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today DLCC Executive Director Jessica Post congratulated Virginia Democrats on the conclusion of the 2017 primary season. After celebrating record-breaking recruitment achievements, Democrats will offer Virginia voters a diverse and talented slate of candidates this November, dedicated to moving Virginia forward.

“In the Trump era, Democrats have shown that they are willing to stand up, knock on doors, and fight to make their community a better place and tonight, Virginia Democrats have proven it once again,” said Post. “From veterans to small business owners and union members to farmers, this inclusive slate of changemakers will work to bring many underrepresented voices to the state capitol. As state Democrats continue to lead the fight for progress, at least three Democratic women will aim to smash glass ceilings in November. Virginians will have the opportunity to elect Kathy Tran (HD-42) as the first Asian-American woman to serve in the Virginia General Assembly, elect Elizabeth Guzman (HD-31) as the first Latina to serve in the Virginia General Assembly, and elect Danica Roem (HD-13) as the only openly transgender state legislator in the nation.”

While Republicans will field their lowest number of candidates in years, Democrats will field their highest with Democrats running in 87 out of 100 Virginia House districts. Since Trump’s inauguration, Democrats have overperformed in almost every legislative special election while claiming victories in New York, New Hampshire, Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and beyond. This November, DLCC looks forward to supporting Virginia Democrats as they build on Democrats’ winning momentum heading in to 2018 elections.
