WASHINGTON — Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post released the following statement after the announcement that DLCC Secretary and Assistant Assembly Majority Leader Rob Bonta will be appointed as California’s first Filipino American attorney general:
“Governor Newsom has made an excellent selection in appointing Leader Bonta as California’s next attorney general. I’ve worked with Leader Bonta both in his capacity as an assemblymember and as a member of the DLCC’s board and I’ve seen firsthand his passion and dedication to making California and the country a better and more equitable place for all.
“Leader Bonta has faithfully served his community in the state legislature for almost a decade and became California’s first Filipino American legislator when he was elected. I couldn’t be more proud and excited to see him serve in this new capacity. Under his leadership, the California legislature has reformed its criminal justice system, implemented new environmental standards, supported small businesses, and so much more. As a member of the DLCC’s executive board, he led our efforts to elect and support hundreds of Democrats to state legislatures across the country. Leader Bonta is a dedicated public servant who leads with his values of inclusion, justice, and equality — all of which will be his strengths as he assumes the position of attorney general.
“Congratulations to Leader Bonta. While we’ll miss his strong leadership in the state legislature, we’re thrilled to see him appointed to this new role and can’t wait to see him continue to deliver for Californians.”
