WASHINGTON — After news broke that Judge Jill Karofsky won the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post released the following statement:
“Judge Jill Karofsky will make Wisconsin a fairer and more just state. Her campaign was forced to deal with verifiably false ads and Republicans who it seems would go to any length to win this seat. Against all odds, her campaign can now claim victory. With that said, it cannot be overstated that voters should never have been forced to choose between their right to vote and their health. Democrats were still right to ask for extended absentee deadlines and for a postponement of the election.
“Judge Karofsky’s win comes despite the fact that the Republican State Leadership Committee spent nearly $1 million in attack ads that proved to be completely false. The RSLC made calculated investments in this race — and their strategy backfired. Republicans made the unconscionable choice to hold an election during a pandemic and they didn’t even win. Their cynical, despicable political miscalculation forced voters to choose between their health and their fundamental right to vote. It seems that voters kept that in mind while casting their ballot last week, and we are confident they will do the same in November.”
