DLCC Spotlight Race Candidate Advances to October Runoff in Mississippi Special Election
Next Month Democrat Kathryn Rehner Will Have Chance to End GOP Supermajority, Flip House District 102 From Red to Blue
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Tonight Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post congratulates Kathryn Rehner on advancing to the runoff in the special election for Mississippi State House District 102. Rehner, a social worker, advocate, and community organizer, currently works for MS Health Access Collaborative to help families obtain affordable health coverage and is a featured DLCC Spotlight Race. A Democratic victory in October would not only flip HD102 from red to blue, it would shatter the Republican supermajority in the state House.
“Congratulations to Kathryn Rehner on advancing to the October runoff election,” said Post. “Mississippians believed in Kathryn and her message of affordable health care, quality public education, and greater economic opportunities for all. DLCC is thrilled to have the chance to flip another red seat to the Democratic column and put an end to Republicans’ supermajority in the Mississippi state House.”
After tonight’s wins in Oklahoma and New Hampshire, state Democrats have successfully flipped six seats from red to blue and overperformed in almost every legislative special election since Trump’s inauguration. DLCC and state Democrats recently scored critical victories in Iowa, Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York, and elsewhere. DLCC looks forward to continuing our support of Democrats in Virginia, New Jersey, Washington, Florida, and beyond as they build on Democrats’ winning momentum heading into 2018 elections.
