WASHINGTON — In response to a federal court ruling that confirmed incumbent Democratic Pennsylvania Senator Jim Brewster’s reelection in November, Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post released the following statement:
“In light of this ruling, the way forward for Senator Jake Corman and Pennsylvania’s GOP leadership is clear: they must seat Senator Brewster immediately. The one fig leaf they had to try to justify their antidemocratic tactic is now gone. The people of Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties voted for Senator Brewster in November, and the Republican Party must accept their decision even if it is politically inconvenient for them.
“The Pennsylvania GOP’s shameful actions over the past week is merely one example of Republicans’ broad assault on our democracy, actions that precipitated the violence and insurrection on Capitol Hill last Wednesday. Our democracy will not survive if elected officials who know better keep throwing temper tantrums simply because they lost a free and fair election.”
