The DLCC has called for the party to go on offense on redistricting and explore mid-cycle redistricting as Republicans intensify their schemes to rig maps

WASHINGTON — California Democrats just passed new maps for voter approval to counter Republicans’ gerrymandering in Texas. To combat President Trump’s directive for Republicans to snatch U.S. House seats ahead of 2026, the DLCC called for Democrats to pursue all options, including mid-cycle redistricting, while also focusing on winning battleground chambers to put the party on offense.

Democrats’ chances in the U.S. House run through state legislatures, and the DLCC’s Dems on Redistricting Offensive is helping fund the fight to put the party on offense on redistricting.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“Governor Newsom and our Democrats in the California Legislature have met the moment to fight Republicans’ reckless attacks on democracy, and the DLCC applauds their strong and speedy response. Texas Republicans’ power grab has set off a chain reaction across the country, and this redistricting crisis will continue. Our best remedy is for state Democrats to follow in California’s footsteps and utilize all power possible to fight the GOP’s attempts to save their slipping House majority. As this national battle shines a light on the immense power that state legislatures hold in determining our country’s future, the DLCC will continue leading the national strategy to win more statehouses.”

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
