The DLCC has called for the party to go on offense on redistricting and explore mid-cycle redistricting as Republicans intensify their schemes to rig maps
WASHINGTON — California just introduced its plan for new maps to counter Republicans’ gerrymandering in Texas, in alignment with the DLCC’s call for Democrats to consider all options to combat President Trump’s calls for Republicans to snatch seats in the U.S. House ahead of 2026.
The DLCC recently called for state legislative Democrats to use all state legislative power available to pursue mid-cycle redistricting, while focusing on winning battleground chambers to put the party on offense. As Republicans launch a full-scale assault on our democracy to protect their vulnerable House majority, Democrats aren’t backing down.
The DLCC’s Dems on Redistricting Offensive is helping fund the fight to put the party on offense on redistricting by winning Democratic majorities in state legislatures.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“The DLCC stands with Governor Newsom and California Democrats who are meeting the moment amid an unprecedented assault on our democracy. Republicans’ blatant schemes to steal a U.S. House majority by rigging maps will not go unanswered by Democrats. The DLCC supports Democrats across the country ensuring no stone is left unturned to protect voters and our elections, and we are proud to see California leading the offense to meet Republicans’ might.
“As Democrats in blue states consider all options to fight back against Republican gerrymandering, the DLCC is leading the work to secure more legislative majorities. Democrats cannot currently win an all-out redistricting fight, which is why we must win more chambers to achieve ultimate redistricting parity. The DLCC will continue leading the national strategy to win more statehouses – we aren’t standing down with democracy on the line.”
