WASHINGTON — In response to the Denver District Court’s decision to halt the GOP’s politically-motivated recall effort on Colorado Senator Kevin Priola, Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post released the following statement:
“From the beginning, the GOP’s efforts to remove Senator Kevin Priola from his seat have been shamefully disingenuous at best and a political circus with the full intent of silencing voters in Senate District 25 at worst. Today’s decision confirms that the Denver District Court saw right through the GOP’s sham and put an end to their politically-motivated attack. But make no mistake, we will not stop holding the GOP accountable for their pathetic attempts to divert from the fact that their MAGA agenda is posing a dangerous threat to our democracy and our way of life. With preserving our most sacred institutions and saving our climate on the ballot this fall, the DLCC is more committed than ever to protecting Colorado’s Democratic majority.”
Last month, Sen. Priola announced he was leaving the Republican Party due to the GOP’s complicity in the January 6 insurrection, their continued attempts to spread election fraud conspiracies, and their refusal to act on climate change. In his statement, Priola wrote: “I cannot continue to be a part of a political party that is okay with a violent attempt to overturn a free and fair election and continues to peddle claims that the 2020 election was stolen.”
