The DLCC called for Democratic legislatures to go on offense on redistricting and explore mid-cycle redistricting as Republicans intensify their schemes to rig maps
WASHINGTON — North Carolina Republicans are charging forward with a plan to silence North Carolina voters and even further gerrymander their maps. North Carolina Republicans’ willingness to sell out North Carolinians is a shameful betrayal of the communities they were elected to represent.
As Republicans cheat to protect their slipping U.S. House majority, the DLCC is driving the national strategy to expand Democratic power in state legislatures. The DLCC called on state Democrats to pursue mid-cycle redistricting and launched DemsOnRedistricting.com to fund the fight to win battleground state legislative chambers.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“Rigging the maps to go along with Trump’s scheme to hold onto power represents a new low for North Carolina Republicans, who have already spent cycles redrawing the maps to lock themselves into power. The GOP’s willingness to silence voters is an extreme betrayal of the North Carolinians who elected them to serve. The DLCC has supported North Carolina Democrats for cycles as they’ve worked to protect voters from the disastrous GOP agenda, and we stand behind them as they stand up against this attack on democracy.”
