WASHINGTON — Republicans’ mid-cycle redistricting schemes are now expanding beyond Texas as Missouri Republican Gov. Mike Kehoe just announced a special session to pursue mid-cycle redistricting.
As state Republicans expand their mid-cycle efforts across the country to rig the maps and cheat the system to protect their meager House majority, the DLCC is leading the national strategy to put Democrats on offense. The DLCC recently called on state Democrats to pursue mid-cycle redistricting and launched DemsOnRedistricting.com to fund the fight to win more Democratic state legislatures in battleground states.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“Republicans are launching a nationwide assault on our democracy. They know they can’t preserve their vulnerable House majority with their unpopular agenda that’s raising costs for families, so they’re gerrymandering to snatch seats mid-cycle.
“This fight won’t end with just Texas and Missouri – Democrats must be clear-eyed about the scale of the assault we’re facing and keep all options open to fight fire with fire. We must also fund winning more Democratic state legislative majorities in battleground states to ultimately achieve redistricting parity. The DLCC is leading the national strategy to win more majorities to match Republicans and defend our democracy.”
