The DLCC is driving the national strategy to build Democratic majorities that put Democrats on offense on redistricting
WASHINGTON — Today, the Supreme Court paved the way for Republicans’ rigged congressional maps in Texas to go into effect ahead of the 2026 midterms. This disappointing ruling upholds Republicans’ efforts to gerrymander an additional 5 congressional seats in their favor and raises the stakes for Democrats to flip more statehouses in 2026 to counter Republicans’ efforts to rig maps.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“Today is a sad day for our democracy as the right-wing Supreme Court just greenlit Republicans’ schemes to gerrymander their way into power in Congress. We know Texas was just the beginning of Republicans’ schemes, as Trump continues to dangerously pressure more state Republicans to fall in line ahead of 2026. The DLCC is leading the national strategy to flip more statehouses to level the playing field around redistricting and ensure Republicans can’t draw themselves into power indefinitely. We must capitalize on 2026 to win more majorities and ensure redistricting parity ahead of 2030.”
As Republicans cheat to protect their slipping U.S. House majority, the DLCC continues to drive the national strategy to expand Democratic power in state legislatures. Earlier this summer, the DLCC called on state Democrats to use their power to pursue mid-cycle redistricting and launched DemsOnRedistricting.com to fund the fight to win more battleground state legislative chambers.
Today’s ruling raises the stakes for the state legislative majorities in play in 2026. The DLCC’s 2025-26 Target Map includes 10 states with 98 congressional districts, including 57 current Republican members of Congress. Winning majorities on this map gives Democrats the power to match Republicans and defend our democracy.
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
