DLCC Welcomes North Carolina State Senate Leader to Board of Directors
North Carolina Senate Democratic Leader Dan Blue’s Valuable Leadership Experience Will Strengthen DLCC Board

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Executive Director Jessica Post proudly announced a new addition to the DLCC’s Board of Directors. North Carolina Senate Democratic Leader Dan Blue was selected by fellow Democratic legislators from across the country to join 21 other legislative leaders on the DLCC Board. Leader Blue’s decades of experience in the North Carolina Legislature will be invaluable in the Board’s mission to expand Democratic strength in statehouses nationwide and position Democratic legislators as adept leaders in the fight for progress.

“On behalf of myself and the entire DLCC community, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Leader Dan Blue and congratulate him on his admittance to the DLCC Board of Directors,” said Post. “Leader Blue is a relentless champion for the people of North Carolina and has dedicated pushing for legislation to improve schools, expand access to healthcare, spur economic development in the state, and better the lives of working families. Leader Blue’s vast experience fighting back against North Carolina Republicans’ petty power grabs and shameless use of discriminatory gerrymandering will be a valuable resource as DLCC lays the groundwork for winning back Democratic statehouse majorities nationwide ahead of 2020 redistricting.”

Leader Dan Blue was first elected to the North Carolina House of Representative in 1980, winning reelection eleven times and serving as the first African-American Speaker of the House before he was elected to the state Senate in 2008. As Speaker, Leader Blue was responsible for the passage of an unprecedented series of workplace safety initiatives, and for many innovative programs to improve North Carolina public schools and reform the state’s criminal justice system. Leader Blue is a past President of the National Conference of State Legislatures where he served on the executive committee of the Southern Legislative Conference. Leader Blue will fill the vacancy left by former Georgia House Democratic Leader Stacey Abrams, who resigned from her position earlier this year to launch her spirited gubernatorial campaign.
