WASHINGTON — Republican state legislative leaders across the country signed onto a letter supporting the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court. By endorsing her, they are supporting the downfall of the Affordable Care Act, reproductive rights, and LGBTQ+ protections — all issues that will have devastating impacts for people across the country and that the court has signaled they would overturn.
Legislative leaders in battleground states like Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Texas signed on to the letter — meaning they have no qualms about eliminating health care for 23 million Americans and gutting protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
“Republicans are going to give Trump whatever he wants — even if that means ripping health care away from 23 million Americans,” said Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Jessica Post. “Republican lawmakers have consistently voted against protecting health care and coverage for people with pre-existing conditions in their statehouses. They’ve made it clear what their priorities will be if they hold onto their majorities this year. Vote them out.”
