Democrat Pam Iovino will head to Harrisburg
WASHINGTON — Tonight, Senator-elect Pam Iovino won a hotly contested special election in southwest Pennsylvania, bringing Democrats one seat closer to flipping the Senate chamber in 2020. The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee directly invested over $89,000 in the race in its ongoing attempts to build off of 2018’s success, where the committee helped support candidates and state organizations take back more than 400 legislative seats across the country. In addition, this week the DLCC announced it had set a new fundraising record for the first quarter of a new cycle, raising over $2.93 million in these first three months. Jessica Post, Executive Director of the DLCC issued the following statement congratulating Senator-elect Iovino on her win.
“Pam Iovino’s tremendous win in Pennsylvania tonight moves Democrats one step closer to flipping the Senate chamber. This victory, in a district that went for Donald Trump in 2016, shows that Democrats continue to have momentum in key races and swing states across the country as the American people resoundingly reject Trump’s agenda and the Republican legislators across the country who follow his lead,” said Jessica Post, Executive Director of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. “This pick-up couldn’t have been accomplished without the tireless work of members of the Allegheny County community who completed over 60,000 volunteer door attempts and 20,000 phone attempts over the course of the election. A veteran of the U.S. Navy with over 20 years of service in the armed forces, Senator-elect Iovino has spent her entire life serving her country and fighting for veterans and their families. She is uniquely qualified to serve in Harrisburg and will bring dignity, independence, and her shared values to her community. No one is more deserving of tonight’s win.”
