WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden endorsed Representative Marty Flynn in Tuesday’s special election in Pennsylvania’s SD-22, the seat that encompasses the president’s childhood home in Scranton. A retired professional boxer, Flynn has represented the area in the state House for four terms and is a strong supporter of organized labor and hardworking Pennsylvania families.
“Marty Flynn will be a fighter for the people of Scranton in the Pennsylvania Senate,” said President Biden. “Building back better starts in the states — we need to elect more leaders like Marty to state legislatures across the country, so that we can work together to build a stronger future. I’m pleased to endorse him in this important race.”
“I’m honored to receive an endorsement from one of Scranton’s favorite sons: President Joe Biden himself,” said Representative Flynn. “I’ve dedicated my career to fighting for my community and standing up for workers, and I’m ready to continue working for my friends and neighbors in the Pennsylvania Senate. Pennsylvanians deserve legislators that are going to look past the partisan warfare and focus on the challenges that matter to them.”
President Biden’s great-grandfather Edward Blewitt represented this district in the Senate during the early 20th century. The seat was left vacant after Democratic Senator John Blake resigned to take a job with Congressman Matt Cartwright.
