If elected, Keishan Scott will be one of the youngest Democratic state legislators in the country

WASHINGTON — Today, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) announced 24-year-old Keishan Scott as a Spotlight candidate ahead of his special election for the South Carolina House on June 3rd. If Keishan wins this race, he will not only be South Carolina’s youngest lawmaker but also one of the youngest Democratic state legislators in the country.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“Young leaders like Keishan Scott are a testament to the talent and promise of the future of the Democratic party. The DLCC is proud to foster the next generation of  Democratic leaders who will be on the frontlines of building the future we deserve. State legislative candidates like Keishan aren’t waiting on Washington to lead –  they’re stepping up to run for office and seizing the opportunity that state legislatures provide to stand up for their communities in the face of Trump’s extremism.”

Keishan Scott (HD-50) is a young minister from Bishopville running in a June special election to protect a Democratic seat in the South Carolina House. Keishan learned the importance of serving others as a kid while volunteering at a local senior center during his summer breaks. He’s now grown into a dedicated public servant who works to uplift all members of the community, and if Keishan wins his bid for the South Carolina House, he is committed to improving life for working families by pushing for progress on issues like access to quality health care and public education.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
