WASHINGTON — Today, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) announced Rob Long as a Spotlight candidate ahead of his special election for the Florida House on December 9th. Bolstering Democratic power in Florida is crucial as Republicans slash Medicaid access for seniors and ignore the home insurance crisis.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“While Florida Republicans wreck economic opportunities and rubber-stamp the failing MAGA agenda, it’s state Democrats like Rob Long who are stepping up to advocate for their communities. We’re proud to back candidates like Rob, who understand the struggles that working families are up against. All year, state Democrats like him have given voters a voice in special elections, and the DLCC will continue supporting them as they make meaningful connections with their neighbors.”

Rob Long (HD-90) is a civil engineer from Delray Beach running to protect an open Florida House seat in a December special election. As a member of the Delray City Commission, Rob has made a huge impact for his community by encouraging sustainable economic development. If Rob is elected this fall, he will champion legislation to uplift Florida’s working families and improve the state’s resilience in the face of the increasingly devastating effects of climate change.

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
