Defending the Democratic majority in the Minnesota Senate is a top priority for the DLCC
WASHINGTON — Today, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) announced two Minnesota Senate Spotlight candidates ahead of majority-deciding special elections on November 4th. A win for DLCC Spotlight Candidate Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger would protect DFLers’ one-seat majority, and a flip for DLCC Spotlight Candidate Louis McNutt would further strengthen Democratic power in one of the most competitive chambers in the country.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“Defending the one-seat majority in the Minnesota Senate and ensuring working families in Minnesota have a voice in Saint Paul continues to be a top priority for the DLCC. Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger and Louis McNutt are strong community leaders who will deliver the kind of bold, unflinching leadership their communities deserve in the face of all the chaos that MAGA Republicans continue to throw their way. Minnesota DFLers have already won special elections in both chambers this year, and the DLCC is proud to stand with these candidates as they do it again this November.”
Louis McNutt (SD-29) is a heavy equipment mechanic from Buffalo, Minnesota, running to flip a seat in the state Senate blue this November. Louis is a hard-working state employee who helps ensure his fellow Minnesotans can use their state’s roads safely. He understands that “politics as usual” can leave working families like his feeling unheard, and he’s ready to be a voice in Saint Paul for rural Minnesotans. If he wins his race this fall, Louis is committed to listening to his constituents first and giving them the responsible representation they deserve.
Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger (SD-47) is a forensic scientist and current Minnesota House member representing south Maplewood and Woodbury. This November, she’s running in a special election to protect a key seat in the Minnesota Senate and ensure Democrats retain their slim majority in the chamber. As a state representative, Amanda has been an outspoken advocate for working families, co-authoring a bill establishing paid family and medical leave. Amanda is ready to join the Minnesota Senate’s blue majority and continue building towards a better future for all.
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
