These ads are reminding voters of what’s at stake as state legislators are poised to either ban or protect abortion access for more than 20 million Americans in these two states alone.
WASHINGTON — The DLCC’s independent expenditure program is in full swing with nearly $2 million in new ads to support state legislative candidates in two of the biggest battleground states of the cycle, Arizona and Pennsylvania, and to sound the alarm on threats to abortion access.
These ads target MAGA opponents in top competitive races that will decide legislative majorities in each of the chambers – making Republicans’ anti-abortion extremism a driving message as Election Day nears. Majorities in Arizona and Pennsylvania will be won by the slimmest of margins – perhaps as few as hundreds of votes – and the DLCC is making sure voters know abortion is on the line in state legislatures.

Earlier this year, the DLCC unveiled a memo highlighting how states are the ultimate arbiters of reproductive freedom. Since the fall of Roe, every state with a Republican trifecta has pushed to enact abortion bans or restrictions, while every state with a Democratic legislative majority has taken action to protect or expand abortion. Since then, state Republicans across the country have only become more extreme – from imposing dangerous abortion restrictions to attacking IVF access and undermining contraceptive care.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee Interim Communications Director Sam Paisley issued the following statement:
“Reproductive rights have been a cornerstone of the DLCC’s work this cycle, and that’s especially true as we ramp up our messaging campaigns and closing arguments just 15 days from the election. In Pennsylvania and Arizona, we’ve already dedicated nearly $2 million to communicate directly with voters about the stakes of state legislative races in shaping abortion access. Many voters know abortion is on the ballot this year, but they don’t always know where – the answer is in state legislatures.
“Control of Pennsylvania and Arizona’s legislatures will come down to just a handful of votes, and abortion could be the driving message that determines who wins in November. Voters deserve to know which candidates are fighting for their freedoms and who’s stripping them away, which is why the DLCC will continue to sound the alarm on MAGA extremists hellbent on attacking abortion and health care access right up until November 5th.”
