The presser series will highlight the consequences of DC Republicans’ extremism in the states

WASHINGTON — The DLCC is launching its new “States of Play” presser series, featuring state legislative leaders who are responding to the on-the-ground impacts of federal Republicans’ chaos. The consequences of the GOP’s destructive leadership will hit the states the hardest, and all eyes should be on the stark contrast between how state Democrats fight for their communities while their Republican counterparts turn a blind eye.

On June 5th at 3:00 pm ET, Illinois Speaker Pro Tempore Kam Buckner, Virginia Del. Michael Feggans, and North Carolina Senate Democratic Leader Sydney Batch will join DLCC President Heather Williams to discuss how trigger laws in their states would automatically end Medicaid expansion and strip health care coverage from working families if Republicans’ proposed federal Medicaid cuts are enacted.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“As Trump and DC Republicans fight to cut Medicaid and increase costs for working class Americans, we cannot lose sight of the fact that these actions will hit the states the hardest. MAGA Republicans know they’re putting red, blue, and purple states in an impossible position with cuts that state budgets cannot possibly fill – but they don’t care. And while state Republicans are burying their heads in the sand, Democratic state legislators are fighting back.”

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
