State Democrats continue to overperform in special elections by an average of 10 points

WASHINGTON—DLCC Spotlight Candidate Amanda Clinton just won her special election for the Oklahoma House, continuing Democrats’ momentum in special elections this year.

With Democrats overperforming by an average of over 10 points in special elections, winning a majority of special elections this year, including in Trump districts, Republicans across the country have been put on notice that it’s time to prioritize solutions for everyday families.

Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:

“It’s never been clearer that Oklahomans need a champion like Representative-elect Amanda Clinton to stand up for them while state Republicans pursue performative DOGE measures and turn a blind eye as Trump’s policies raise prices and take away economic opportunities. Strong state Democratic leadership has become increasingly important as DC Republicans continue to put their extreme agenda ahead of their communities. The DLCC is proud to uplift state Democrats like Representative-elect Clinton who are running – and winning –  in every corner of the country because they’re putting the interests of working families first.”

The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) is the campaign arm of Democratic state legislatures and leads the national strategy for building power and winning new majorities. Over the last three decades, we have strategized cycle over cycle to win majorities and lead the effort to bring national attention and investment to our ballot level, winning nearly a dozen new chamber majorities over the last decade. Our work has ensured that nearly half of Americans are represented by at least one Democratic majority in their statehouse. State legislatures are the building blocks of our democracy and have the closest connections to Americans’ day-to-day lives. From protecting fundamental freedoms and voting rights to growing the middle class and advancing opportunity, the DLCC and state legislators are moving the Democratic agenda forward and shaping the future of this country.
