State Democrats continue to mitigate the GOP’s attacks on working families during the GOP’s government shutdown
WASHINGTON — Democrats in state legislatures are continuing to deliver for voters while the GOP’s federal government shutdown forces military service members, air traffic controllers, and more public servants to work without pay. Meanwhile, Michigan Democrats negotiated a state budget that will fix broken roads and feed students, Colorado Democrats passed critical funding for food assistance, and New Mexico Democrats strengthened health care and services for their constituents.
Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee President Heather Williams issued the following statement:
“While Republicans keep the federal government shut down to avoid facing the health care crisis they’ve created, state Democrats are stepping up to support the working families that Republicans have turned their backs on. The work that Democrats are accomplishing in the states is a much-needed relief for communities struggling under the GOP’s disastrous economic agenda. Voters have watched all year as Democrats in state legislatures have stepped up to fill the gaping holes left by Trump’s failures, and they’re already heading to the polls in the 2025 elections to hold Republicans accountable.”
